If you are about to embark on some casual sex you must consider that you may contract a sexual disease. Providing proper precautions are taken you can minimize this risk. If you are unlucky enough to catch something then hear is a list of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. The notes cover main symptoms and cures, (if any), and should not be used for diagnostics. If you suspect you are infected with something nasty you should seek professional advice immediately.
Common Sexually transmitted diseases. (STD's)
Chlamydia:
Chlamydia is a fairly common bacterial infection, affecting both men and women. Chlamydia is passed from person to person during vaginal, anal and oral sex, it is known as a sexually transmitted infection (STI or STD).
It is easily treated and cured once diagnosed but if left untreated can spread infection to the fallopian tubes and ultimately lead to infertility: Chlamydia is the most common preventable cause of infertility in women.
Syphilis:
A slang name for this one is the Pox. It is fairly rare today although cases have nearly doubled since the late 90's. Symptoms to start with may go unnoticed but is usually in the form of a painless ulcer appearing at the point of infection, This can occur any time between one week and three months after infection. It can be cured with antibiotics in this early stage but if left untreated can cause very serious disorders affecting the Heart and Nervous system resulting in death. In the late stages it can cause very serious Mental problems. Can be transmitted from mother to baby and can cause miscarriage or stillbirth. Hitler was alleged to have Syphilis.
Gonorrhoea:
More commonly known, as the Clap it is another rare one but has shown a recent increase. Symptoms again may go unnoticed or there may be no symptoms. Men may experience pain during urination and develop a yellow discharge. Women's symptoms tend to be less apparent but if they do show painful urination and an increased discharge or yellow discharge from the vagina is seen. If left untreated inflammation of the sexual organs will occur leading to infertility, it can spread to the whole body through the veins and can lead to heart problems. It can be cured with a single dose of antibiotics in some cases but has recently shown resistance to some antibiotics.
Genital Herpes:
Fairly common disease this one, two types of herpes simplex exist, type 1 affects the mouth and nose and is moor common while type 2 affects the genitals. We will discus type 2 only. Symptoms include itching, small fluid filed blisters, pain during urination and flu like symptoms with swollen glands and fever. No serious complications are known and although the virus lives in your body forever outbreaks can be controlled with anti viral medicines. It can however be transferred from mother to baby if the mother has a serious outbreak around her vagina at time of birth. This can seriously affect the health of the baby.
